When it comes to fashion brands, social media is essential to speak to your customers and find an audience that love your products. I’m always talking about developing relationships with customers and finding out who they are and what they are about, to gain a better relationship and therefore more sales. Serving your customer and providing products that serve them better for truly loyal fans.
WHY SOCIAL MEDIA DOESN’T WORK…….FOR ME
If you’ve ever dropped by my social media sites, you may have noticed that there aren’t that many followers, likes and shares. Most people think that this is because I don’t follow my own advice, or neglect the very people I am trying to help. Actually, you couldn’t be more wrong, but for my business it’s actually not that surprising.
Over the years social media has never worked for me, since my company helps others to build brands. You’ll never see a big brand tweet me or share a post I wrote, thanking me for my help, because to do so, would tell their customers that they needed my help and maybe, affect the way they see that brand as a customer.
Over the years I’ve had thousands of followers and fans, follow and unfollow in an eternal, revolving door effect. That’s OK with me. I’m not concerned with seeing the stats rise, only that I know I’m helping people along their journey.
You may ask yourself how I know this, if I don’t have 10,000 likes or 600 shares? Well for three simple reasons.
- I get a lot of emails. People who have actually taken the time to sit down and write to me. This means more to me than a tweet, because it actually means that someone has gone out of their way to write, rather than a simple click of a button, to let me know that I have helped them in some way. I really appreciate that.
- Even though the social media stats you can see might seem small, my email list is rather large. So when brands want to listen to my advice, without letting their customers know, they join up. This to me as a service company, is a far more accurate measure of how I am serving my clients and the wider fashion brand audience.
- There is however 1 media that has done better than the rest, and that is YouTube. In a place where people watch 2 minute cat videos [and yes they are funny. I won’t pretend I haven’t ever watched one], people are taking the time to sit and watch 60 minute seminars , including nearly ten thousand views on my Technical Pack video. That is pretty good in my opinion.
5 MINUTE FASHION BRAND
In the same way that I tell people to extract information, to help them serve their customers, from a customer profile, I’m doing the same. So with that in mind, I have decided to roll out some additional help and information for those looking for fashion brand advice.
If video is what people want, then that is the medium and platform to do it in. If I’m getting the same questions in my emails, time and time again, then this is what people want to know…. So as an information resource, my YouTube channel has a new playlist called 5 Minute Fashion Brand, where you can post questions in the main video and I’ll answer them every week in a short, under 5 minute video.
If you want to see the short intro video on the playlist, where you can comment with questions on your fashion brand, then you can see that below.
